Cartoonist Rick London’s website Londons Times Cartoons contains thousands of cartoon animal images, but none is more popular and funny than the aardvark. Aardvark Dentistry is the name of one of their most classic favorites and the cartoonist has decided to do a little research on the aardvark. This is the fascinating information he found. If you are looking for aardvarks, you need to go south of the Sahara Desert in Africa. “Earth Pig” is what the Africans call them, and, in fact, the name ardvark means “earth pig”. So, makes sense to me. Their body somewhat resembles a pig which probably has a lot to do with that. But why they call them earth pigs, since regular pigs do not fly (to my knowledge) is beyond me. Their tails resemble a kangaroo’s and ears like a rabbit. Aardvarks hibernate during daytime.
Actually they burrow fairly deep holes where they rest during the day, since the sun is so hot in that part of the world, and, only come out at night. At sundown, the aardvark goes on its hunt for it’s favorite cuisine, termites. It will also eat ants, but prefers termites, and of course, wouldn’t you? Their hunting and gathering of this delicacy is rather systematic. It digs through the hard shell of a mound with its front claws and with its long sticky tongue, eats what is in the mound, hopefully termites. It has the ability to close its nostrils preventing insects and dust from getting in its nostrils, and has a very thick skin which prevents biting from the live ants and/or termites.
Female aardvarks typically give birth to one newborn each year. Baby aardvarks with their mother for about six months before moving out and digging their own burrows, which can be extensive dwellings with many multiple doorways. Oddly enough, almost as odd as the aardvark itself, is the fact that there is a growing number of hobbiest and collectors interested in aardvark gifts and collectibles. Against all odds, one of Londons Times most popular cartoons and gift items is the one regarding an aardvark. Eat your heart out Gary Larson and The Far Side. Aardvarks now rule!
The most basic no-fault benefit is personal injury protection coverage (PIP). This coverage will pay you, your relative or any other person riding in your car a minimum benefit amount per person for injury, regardless of fault. The level of benefits varies widely among states and may be optional.
The list below are types of coverage that you may receive as part of typical personal injury protection coverage:
1. Medical Expense Benefits. Hospital, medical, surgical, professional nursing, X-rays, ambulance, optometric, dental and prosthetic services are all included in you medical expense benefits.
2. Rehabilitation Expenses Benefit: Included in this benefit are all physical and occupational therapy, rehabilitation and psychiatric costs.
3. Work Loss Benefit: This benefit includes coverage for loss of wages up to a specific limit for a specific time period following injury.
4. Funeral Expense Benefit: This benefit covers all reasonable charges up to a specific amount for funeral services, including burial and cremation expenses.
5. Survivors Loss Benefit: This benefit provides a payment to your surviving spouse or dependents up to a specific amount for a specific time period.
It isn’t advised to drop your PIP coverage to get cheap car insurance even if your personal medical coverage will cover you during an accident. Your personal medical coverage may change regarding how you will be covered in an auto accident. If you aren’t aware of these changes or don’t notify your auto insurance company of these changes you will not have any coverage for medical expenses due to an auto accident.
Though some people believe that auto insurance quotes depend on state regulations and policies, it is not always so. If you take time to compare the rates auto insurance companies offer, you will realize that they may vary as greatly as a few hundred dollars. Though each state’s regulations and policies do play a certain role in the given price, insurance agents themselves determine their final rates.
Companies go through several options first before they offer you their auto insurance quotes. Factors like your age, social security number, address, and driver’s license will affect the cost of insurance. They commonly ask this information so that they can supply the best deal for you.
Information such as your vehicle’s condition, mileage, place of registration, and current health condition will be included. Some companies would ask you additional questions to able to provide you the right deal.
History of any car accidents that you caused, no driving experience, and registering your car in a large city will also influence in higher auto insurance quotes. Insurance quotes can also be reduced if you have a good driving record and higher deductibles.
Companies nationwide usually offer discounts to senior citizens and students. Discounts can differ from state to state along with the different coverage policies of various companies. Try to opt for any discounts because even if they only offer little, it can still save you much money.
As you inquire companies for auto insurance quotes, be very exact on what type of coverage you are looking for. There is no use purchasing much coverage for a brand new car because there is nothing much to insure yet. Your company can provide you the right coverage if you provide them exact details, and not end up buying things you don’t really need. By providing them information, you will be able to save money and get the right coverage.
And of course, it helps to compare the insurance rates and type of coverage different companies offer. However, don’t assume that the cheapest is really the best here. What counts is rather value for money, i.e. good customer service and coverage at the lowest possible price. To find best auto insurance quotes is quite simple nowadays with many websites offering free comparison as well as loads of useful information to help you make a wise decision.
Take a look at the following useful resources to find what you need.
Do you want to find the cheapest car insurance? Sure! We all do! There are many people who constantly search for car insurance that has affordable premiums with great coverage. In fact, you are probably one of them, looking for a great policy that won’t break the bank. Don’t give up, cheap car insurance is out there and it is ripe for the taking. There are some things, though, that you need to remember while on your quest for car insurance for a cheap price. You need to keep some things in mind before you close the deal.
Compare the Same Types of Coverage: First of all, if you are comparing various companies for the best possible deal on your car insurance, you need to be sure that you are comparing the same types of coverage. You don’t want to be comparing one quote that has lower ceilings for top medical expense reimbursements than the other quote that you are looking at. In order to get the best possible rate, you’ll need to compare the same type of coverage.
A good example of this is a search for liability coverage only. Even liability has different deductibles and varying coverage amounts. Make sure that you are comparing the liability coverage from one company to the exact type of coverage from another. Make sure the limits are the same, deductibles and other details. You want your PIP amounts to be the same so that you can avoid discrepancies. It would be a big mistake to compare liability insurance to full coverage insurance. The liability insurance would naturally be less expensive, but you would not have the same level of coverage as you would with the full coverage insurance. When you are comparing insurance quotes, pay attention to the details and make sure that they you are comparing like coverage.
Another thing to remember is that the cheapest insurance is not always the best insurance choice. Although you do want to get the cheapest car insurance possible, you want to also make sure that your car insurance of good quality. Just because a plan is cheaper doesn’t mean that it is the best for you, especially if it doesn’t offer you the coverage that you need. No matter how low the price tag, it just won’t be the best for you.
Check Out the Company’s Finances: Before you go with a particular type of car insurance, check out the finances of the company. Sure, the company may offer great prices, but what if the company is not really financially stable? The last thing you want to do is go with a company that has a financial breakdown within the first few months that you have a policy with them.
Another thing that you should investigate regarding the insurance company is their payout record. Cheap insurance for your car is useless if you can’t get your claims paid. Investigate the company’s history and see how other customers have been treated by them. See if other customers have received their claim payouts in a timely manner. This will give you a very good indication of whether you want to go with that company or if you want to continue your search.
Good customer service is another very important factor when you are considering an insurance agency that has car insurance that is cheap. The Better Business Bureau is a great resource for checking to see if any complaints have been filed against the company. If a company has numerous complaints, then you may want to look elsewhere. Low rates do not make up for shoddy service.
These tips for finding the cheapest car insurance should help you streamline your search. Keep each of these things in mind while on your search for car insurance that is cheap. You are sure to be rewarded with car insurance that is not only a great price, but is also high quality and fits your needs to a T.
Everyone at some point realises that they do need some sort of life cover but very few actually know what type or indeed how much they actually need. This article aims to clear that up and help to ensure that you have the right cover for your financial situation and the right amount of cover for your particular needs.
In short anyone that leaves someone worse off in the event that they die needs some sort of life cover. This could be if they have a mortgage or loan or could just be if they are the major bread winner in the home and the loss of them would mean the loss of their corresponding income.
So let’s start at the beginning. Do you have a mortgage or loan outstanding and do you have them insured? If you do, and if they are as yet not insured, assess what the amount of that loan or mortgage is. Whatever the value of the mortgage or loan is the amount of insurance you therefore need to protect against loss of earnings after death. If, after you have allowed for that cover, you can also afford critical illness cover, this would be an advisable route to take as well.
The second part of your insurance policy is slightly more difficult to assess. You will need to take into account the affects upon your family from the loss of your income should you suffer critical illness or death. In other words, what would be the ongoing costs to your family.
It pays to consider the type of impact your loss would have on your family financially. Say that at the time of your death you were earning 25000 each year. That would mean that your family would be worse off by that amount each year thereafter. You would need to ensure that you had a policy that would cover this loss in one way or another.
There are many ways in which this goal can be achieved. You can take out an insurance that pays out a monthly or annual benefit for the amount needed. For example a plan that pays out an annual benefit of 20,000 in the event of death would be suitable for someone trying to protect their family in the event of death and the resulting loss of their salary.
An alternative, but more complicated possibility is the option of providing a lump sum payout on the event of your death. Obviously the wise move to make on the payment of a lump sum is to invest it correctly so as to provide a payout on a regular basis. If done sensibly, this can work out well. What you need to do, though, is to take out a lump sum insurance policy for considerably more than the initial income, as stated, 30,000. The standard is 10 times the amount, therefore 300,000. So you will be taking out cover to provide a lump sum of 300,000.
When the insured person then dies, the family will receive a payout of 300,000 which is theirs to invest. By investing correctly, this amount should then produce an annual income of 30,000 for the family members left behind. This effectively replaces the income of the family breadwinner.
To conclude, it is fair to say that almost all of us need some sort of life insurance cover. By working out how much you need, what the insurance cover will be needed for and deciding how you want the insurance to pay out, the rest becomes simple. Nevertheless, a good life insurance provider will be able to work all of the complicated parts out for you. It is their daily job, and so be sure to make good use of their knowledge and expertise in helping you find the right insurance solution for you.
In recent times there has been a steady climb in the number of people suffering form diseases and physical disorders mainly in the younger age group of people. And these problems because improper lifestyles, environmental conditions, lack of exercise, stress, etc. And it has become really important for everyone to have the best possible health insurance policy mainly due to the skyrocketing costs of health care and medical treatment.
There are a number of health insurance providers in California who tend to people of different ages. The federal government has also started such programs, to attract many people under their schemes. These government schemes greatly help the people from the lower income groups. You need to understand the different plans available in the insurance market to actually select the right plan for you. There are also many insurance brokers, who can help guide you through different plans to make the right decision; in accordance to your age, lifestyle and medical history.
In many health insurance the fee for service plans is an unadventurous form. There are mainly two types of health insurance plans. 1. The indemnity plan and 2.Managed care plan. In indemnity plan which is also called as reimbursement plan offers a wide range of doctors, hospitals and other medical services. Even the reimbursement amount depends upon the policy. Actual expenses of the medical care are met by the insurer. And managed care plans consist of sub-kinds; HMO’s, PPO and POS. It is on a prepaid basis and that the HMO provides treatment and they also charge a monthly fee for the health care services. An organization of doctors and hospitals that offer services to association or groups are called PPO’s. In POS plans you are not expected to pay a deductible amount. In managed care plans have their own set of doctors and health care centers and hospitals.
Today many insurance companies have their own websites that provide information on various aspects of their policies and products.
When it comes to insurance, there are so many flavors and varieties that many folks don’t know quite where to start. However, when you peel back the layers, it can be quite simple. There are some basic things to know when considering health insurance.
1. Insurance may be expensive but not having it at all can cost you a lot more. There are ways to save cash on health insurance but opting not to have it at all isn’t one of them. One car accident or slip and fall could land you straight into bankruptcy if you don’t have the protection of health insurance.
2. Enroll in a plan if your employer offers it. This is almost always financially beneficial because most employer plans are partially subsidized if not completely paid for. Regardless of your age to state of health, it’s usually a better deal. Take it if it’s offered.
3. Look and compare several plans. Costs and benefits differ widely between plans. It’s best to shop around and look at multiple plans before deciding on one. There is, unfortunately, no “standard coverage”, do doing the legwork will hold you in good stead in the long run.
4. Even great coverage has fine print. Read over your policy carefully. Even the best coverage can have big loopholes. Most policies cover hospital and doctor visits but prescription, mental health and dental coverage are optional.
5. The lowest premium may not always be the best option. You may opt for a high deductible, lowest premium plan but you find that you need to go the doctor much more often than you had planned and now you have major out of pocket expenses you hadn’t planned on. Check out the policies and find which plans have services that have the best prices.
6. If you’re looking for flexibility, you’ll pay for it. If you are looking for a plan with comprehensive coverage with the lowest out of pocket costs, you’ll pay for it in high premiums. If you want to go out of network, you’ll pay even more.
7. There are sources that allow you to review networks before joining. There are now several private and public entities that offer data and information on doctors, hospitals and health plans.
8. You can continue benefits if you lose your job. Legislation through the government protects you allows you to keep your health insurance plan should you lose your job. The premiums have to be paid in full by you every month and are no longer subsidized by your employer.
Mold spores are everywhere in our world. An air sample will show you that mold spores can be found in even the most clean homes or buildings. All they need is a warm, moist area are to provide the environment to infect the organic material at hand. In the woods, mold attacks any dead organic material (particularly wood) and turns it into a form of fresh soil for new plant growth. Anyone can discover mold in a building by the strong, bleach like smell commonly found in the dark and damp place of your building. There seems to be no place where mold will not grow, and given the chance, it will affect millions of buildings each year.
The clearing of mold from a facility is never a simple project. Affected owners can toss out all the mold-infected material and disinfect the area with a mixture of bleach and water. This process, however, will not resolve the mold issue if it is hidden behind the walls, floors, and plaster. When the problem is found inside the construction, the repair of the mold problem is going to be a major project and it will be expensive.
Mold is a health hazard. Several forms of mold, such as black mold, can cause serious illness of anyone in the building. Those with allergies and weakened immune systems will suffer worse from mold infections. This is an invisible health threat that will not go away without direct action to remove all infected material.
A professional mold inspector knows that mold is always the product of too much humidity problem or water invasion. A major mold infestation cannot be completely remediated unless the water source is found and eliminated. Neglect of the water problem will guarantee that the mold problem will return. A water leak requires that a physical repair must be applied before the mold cleaning project can fix a mold issue.
Avoid services that simply spray a fungicide or paint over the problem with a special paint. There are far too many services that charge a hefty fee to do an inadequate clean up of the infected area. The truth is that mold removal is often a bigger job than most imagine, and it can be costly to correct.
Mold remediation is not generally covered under an insurance policy under “Water Damage.” Broken pipes, natural floods, and storm damage may be covered events in a policy, so do not neglect the real source of water invasion. You might be lucky and get the insurance company to cover the cost of the repair.
If you have a flood, you must know that mold will grow within a 24 to 48 hour period. This will make the clean up problem far worse. Do not wait for the insurance company to act. Pump out the water right away and remove all debris right away. After the water is out of the area, push fresh air into the area to dry the building as quickly as possible. Provide vapor barriers between the mold-infected and non-infected areas.
Imagine this. You’ve just gone to the doctor and you’ve had your annual check-up. You’ve had your blood pressure checked and had the once over from the nurse practitioner. Congratulations! Your blood pressure is back down to normal levels. Now, who gets credit for this great achievement? You guessed right! Your doctor will get a bonus for the accomplishment of lowering your blood pressure.
This is a controversial trend nowadays and more and more insurance are opting for a “pay for performance” plan when negotiating with health care providers. The insurance companies pay health care providers bonuses with certain criteria are met. For example, if your doctor has you undergo certain screenings or if your blood pressure has stabilized, your doctor will receive extra money for meeting those objectives.
The Integrated Health Association (IHA), a group that involved 7 health insurance companies, collaborated on an initiative that paid out more than $54 million in 2005 to medicals groups. This figure went up from $37.5 million in 2004.
Not everyone agrees that paying more for higher quality care can work out financially or ethically. Naysayers dispute that paying doctors for patient outcomes is hard to track. Outcomes may be correlated with the physician but may also be attributed to the patient’s health and lifestyle. There is also concern that the funds will be directed to richer areas where patients are more likely to follow doctors’ admonitions.
Those who are for the program say that improved quality in health care providing can cut costs by preventing expensive procedures that may occur in the foreseeable future.
With that thought, how much should insurance companies pay physicians who reach these benchmarks? The IHA program does not give funds to individual doctors. They give bonuses to medical groups who then decide how to distribute funds. It was suggested that to encourage significant change, physicians needed to be compensated at least 5% of their salary. The IHA program, however, distributed much less than that. Their group paid between 1 - 2%.
IHA isn’t the only group to provide incentives to doctors. In 2006, Congress passed a bill that would pay doctors additional incentives if the doctors reports how often they provided quality care as defined by the federal government. The doctors qualified for a 1.5% bonus in the second half of 2007.
There are some ethical questions to ask. Shouldn’t physicians already have our best interests at heart? Is it wrong to compensate above and beyond salary to do what they should be doing already? Is it worth it if patient outcomes change dramatically? It seems like a lowest common denominator cure for a systemic problem.
I have to hand it to the type of people who will go out of their way to find a bargain, even though it may seem like an extreme sometimes. They will drive all the way across town to save a penny a gallon on gas and tell me it is worth it. But those same people fall way short when it comes to really finding bargains, especially with bigger ticket items such as their car insurance quote. In fact, in most cases they cannot even tell me what their deductibles are for their coverages.
Are you being penny wise and pound foolish? There are many things you need to consider when shopping for car insurance, especially in terms of coverages and deductibles so that you can truly do an effective comparison between policies.
Most consumers simply renew their policies every year and don’t pay much more attention to it than that. While that certainly saves time, it most certainly does not save money because car insurance rates are changing all the time, and your insurance company is unlikely to call and tell you that the cost of coverage was reduced, especially if you are happy to keep paying the inflated prices.
That is not to say that your current car insurance provider is charging you too much. They may in fact be providing you with the most aggressive rate policy possible with just enough coverage so that you are protected, yet not over-insured. The problem is that if you don’t comparison shop every year, you don’t know that for sure, do you?
You do not need collision insurance, which is quite pricey in most states, if your car is paid off. If your car is not paid off, the finance company will require you to carry collision insurance to protect their interests in the vehicle. But the price of collision insurance varies greatly depending on your deductible. With a $100 deductible, the cost of this coverage will probably be about three times greater than what it would be with a $500 or $1000 deductible. Determine how you drive, where you drive, and then determine what type of deductible you should have for collision insurance.
Also check your coverage limits. Not all insurance plans are created equally. For example, with personal liability, one quote may have a ceiling of $50,000 (which is peanuts in today’s world), while another policy may have a ceiling of $500,000 which is much closer to reality. Make sure that when you compare policies, you are really comparing equal coverage with equal ceilings.
Lastly, don’t forget to check into getting an online car insurance quote. It will not cost you anything, and you may be pleasantly surprised to find out how aggressively some of those policies are priced.
If you can save money for the same coverage, why pay more for it? It is clearly worth your time and effort to do your comparison shopping for a car insurance quote to make sure you’re not paying more than you need to for the coverage you want.
With so-called “lifestyle” diseases on the rise, medical doctors and insurance companies are looking to find new ways to maintain health and prevent and control diseases. And now that obesity has reached epidemic proportions, the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction to combat the trend. Health providers are now looking more closely at diet and exercise as a way to prevent disease.
Maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle is important for several reasons. Health maintenance through diet and exercise helps to prevent loss of bone mass and vitamin deficiency. A healthy diet helps to prevent diseases such as heart attacks, strokes, osteoporosis, some cancers and obesity. A healthy diet can also help to treat and control diseases like lupus, high blood pressure, diabetes, celiac disease and mellitus.
The body runs on a series of fats, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals to sustain healthy organ function. Vitamins and minerals are critical to the body and are necessary for proper growth and proper functioning of systems inside the body.
With obesity and heart disease on the rise, they are a major public health issue for the United States and other countries. Many of the dietary recommendations nowadays are aimed at the preventing these two diseases. Obesity occurs when a person eats more calories than the body burns off. When obesity becomes chronic, then other diseases start to develop such as heart disease, diabetes, liver disease, arthritis, high blood pressure, just to name a few.
Losing weight requires that people take in more low energy-dense foods. These foods include vegetables and fruits. Foods like this contain few calories per unit so a person can consume large volumes without taking in many calories. High energy-dense foods like sweets, fried foods and foods containing trans fats. These foods have high cholesterol and saturated fat content which has been linked to heart disease. Avoiding processed foods is also recommended as well as a regular exercise routine.
In 2005, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) published a new guideline detailing changes in the dietary recommendations for Americans. The new guidelines emphasize more fruit, vegetable, whole grains and lean meats. There also should be close attention paid to saturated fats and added sugars.
Eating healthy nowadays is more complicated than ever. We are often victims of our own convenient society and have forgotten how to listen to our bodies and our own instincts for health. In our highly industrialized and technical world we’ve gotten away from knowing where food comes from. These guidelines from the USDA are one voice in the din of many. I hope that we may all choose to listen more carefully.
Auto Insurance Coverage
Excluding basic liability coverage the most carried types of car insurance coverage are Comprehensive and Collision coverage. In this article we will explain what is included in each type of coverage and what there differences are.
Collision Coverage
Will pay for damages to your car from hitting another object, such as another car, tree, house or mailbox. This coverage is relatively expensive compared to the other coverages listed in your car insurance policy. Collision coverage is not required by law but may be by your financing or leasing company.
If your vehicle is older and worth less than $2000, you should consider not opting for this coverage since you are more likely to spend more on your premium than you would get if your filed a collision claim. The cost of repairs can easily exceed the total worth of your vehicle and the insurance company will pay you what it is worth rather than fixing it minus your deductible.
Comprehensive Coverage
It can also be known as other than collision coverage and it pays for almost all other damages to your vehicle. Coverages include vandalism, theft, hitting of animals, fire, severe weather and floods. It will also cover damage to your windshield or windows. It doesn’t cost as much as collision coverage and is also optional and not required by law, although it may also be required by your financing or leasing company.
An important thing to consider when purchasing collision and comprehensive coverage is your deductible. Many companies offer zero dollar to $2500 deductibles. The deductible is the amount of money you will pay if you file a claim before the insurance company pays there share. For example, if you have a $500 comprehensive deductible and file a claim for $1300, you pay $500 and the insurance company will pay the remaining $800.
Having a deductible lowers the amount you have to pay for insurance because you are agreeing to take on part of the risk. The insurance companies also likes this because it reduces your chance of filing small claims, which are costly for them to process.
If you buy a new car and take out a loan the lending company will most likely require you to have collision and comprehensive coverage as part of your car insurance. The reason for this is because your vehicle is collateral for the money you borrowed and if they need to repossess your vehicle they need to make sure it will be worth what you borrowed.
In the event you have to buy, or decide to buy, collision or comprehensive coverage, you can save money by agreeing to the highest deductible you can afford to pay in the event of an accident. However, because comprehensive coverage is usually cheaper than collision coverage, many people save money by dropping the collision coverage and keeping the comprehensive coverage to protect against natural perils, theft and glass breakage.
Some seniors on fixed incomes are deciding to opt out of lifesaving screenings in an effort to save money on the co-pays. This fact comes from an alarming study out of Brown University that was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. The study revealed that mammography rates dropped by 8% with women with women who were required to provide a co-pay as opposed to those with full coverage.
Amal Trivedi, M.D., the researcher and lead author in the study found the findings “simple and startling - a small co-payment for a mammogram can lead to a sharp decrease in breast cancer screening rates.” He goes on to add that “co-payments as low as $12 deter women from getting mammograms. Because mammograms are critical in the fight against breast cancer, the most common cancer among American women, our findings have important health policy implications.”
John Ayanian, M.D., a co-author on the study recommends that if Medicare eliminated the co-payments for mammograms that it could potentially save lives. Early detection is critical in the prevention and cure of breast cancer.
The study has important implication in terms of health policy making. The results revealed that screening rates dropped 5.5 percent with insurance plans that required co-pays but increased by 3.4% with plans that had full coverage.
The study detailed mammography information from 174 Medicare insurance programs. They looked at statistics from 336,475 women between the ages of 65 and 69 from 2001-2004. Some of the data revealed that
* Breast cancer screening rates were 8-11% lower in groups that had co-payment plans. The difference existed even when there were adjustments made for income, education, race, etc.
* From 2002-2004, breast cancer screening rates decreased by 6% in plans that included co-payment plans. Conversely, breast cancer screening rates increased in plans that continued their full coverage program.
* The rate of plans that required co-pays for breast cancer screening grew from 3 plans for 21 plans within the range of 3 years (2001-2004). The increase in these insurance plans with this cost-sharing feature affected .5 % of women in 2001 and then increased to 11% of women in 2004.
* The range of price in co-payments in the insurance plans with cost sharing programs ranged from $12.50-$35. The average cost was approximately $20.
All of the doctors and researchers in the study urged insurance companies to eliminate the cost sharing programs in some of the preventive screening procedures, especially mammograms. The benefits of possibly saving lives were far greater than the benefit of the cost savings to the insurance companies.
Insurance scams by individuals against insurance companies are becoming common practice just as it is common practice for them getting caught in their illegal endeavors. Since there are many types of insurance in both the United States and Canada, there are many different types of insurance scams that exist from Worker’s Comp scams to car insurance scams. In the end, these scams cost the individuals who are playing fair more in insurance than what they should have to pay. Below you will find the top 10 most common insurance scams by individuals.
Car Insurance (scams 1-6)
Car insurance accident scams may just be the most common of them all and there are actually more of them. These scams include:
The paper accident - The criminal solicits an auto repair or salvage company to participate in an accident that only exists on paper
Fictitious hit and run - The hit and run never happened
The Swoop and Swat technique - When the criminal swoops in front of another car and stops while an accomplice pulls to the side of the target car, keeping it from swerving out of the way. The almighty sideswipe - This one occurs at turn lanes and intersections. The criminal takes multiple left turns to eventually end up in the targets lane.
The friendly wave -The criminal waves at the victim to let them in front of them in heavy traffic and then quickly accelerates to have a collision.
Another but more subtle scam that is perpetrated by individuals is the “primary driver” scam. There are times in which an individual in a household may be cheaper on the insurance of a particular car. So instead of the actual primary driver being listed as the primary driver, the one who will be easier on the wallet is listed as the primary driver.
Life Insurance (scams 7 and
This may seem like something from a lifetime movie, but unfortunately it does happen in real life. A spouse takes out a life insurance policy on the other and then they put antifreeze in their coffee to poison them or something so that they can collect on the life insurance money. Fortunately, the perpetrator gets caught most of the time, but it still doesn’t keep those who feel that, “I’ll never get caught” from trying.
Lying on life insurance applications is a scam in itself. Individuals are required to fill out certain pieces of information on the insurance application that can influence the price of it, which can actually hurt the perpetrator more than help them. Sure, it helps their pocket, but if it is found that the application was falsified in any way, coverage may not be awarded to beneficiaries.
Worker’s Compensation (scam 9)
Worker’s Compensation is meant to help someone who has been injured on the job. Sometimes someone drawing Worker’s Compensation may lie to their doctor or get the doctor in on it with them so that they may draw benefits longer without having to go back to work. Unfortunately, this practice is all too common and costs lots of money.
Health insurance (scam 10)
Health insurance tends to not be as common a target as those previously mentioned, but it is certainly not out of the question. One scam is the offering of phony health insurance. An individual or group of individuals will call unsuspecting people to offer them health coverage to only receive nothing. The next thing they know they are calling the actual insurance company and there is no record of coverage.
So these are some of the most common scams perpetrated against the different branches of insurance. Some get away with the most subtle of offenses, but the more severe the crime the more likely they are to do time for it. That’s why it is better to be honest than not even chance trying to illegally obtain money through insurance scams.
One of the ideals our founding fathers based this fine country on was “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. This principal has been described even as an inalienable right. Well, this may not be true if you’re a veteran.
With 47 million Americans without health insurance, it’s clear that our health care system is in crisis. And, the World Health Organization has ranked the United States 37th in the world in between Costa Rica and Slovenia. You wouldn’t think that a country with the best doctors, the most cutting edge research and facilities and the $2 trillion to spend on health care would rank so poorly.
All of those facts contribute to a great heath care system however, if 47 million citizens do not have access to this health care, then the ranking is just. A recent study Harvard Medical detailed the struggle of veterans related to health insurance. The study revealed that of the 47 million people without health coverage, 12.2%, or one out of every 8 is a veteran or is a member of a veteran household. The study goes on to say that 1.8 million veterans are uninsured. This has increased steadily every year.
The veterans and veterans’ families are means-testing out of health care. The criteria to qualify has to be lower than $24,000. In other words, if your household income exceeds $24,000 per year, you are not eligible for Veterans Administration benefits.
Besides being at the very least unethical, to deny medical treatment to the people who have risked their lives in an effort to maintain our way of life just doesn’t make sense. Many have experience severe physical and psychological trauma. The result of this brazen disregard is evidenced by the growing number of veterans in our prison system. And, it’s been shown that 25% of our homeless citizens are veterans.
Dr. Stephanie Woolhandler, an advocate for Veterans, recently conducted a study for Harvard Medical and appeared before the House Committee on Veterans Affairs stating that “It breaks my heart. The VA should be an important safety net for my patients, and it’s not.”
One of the symbols of a great nation is its ability to have its citizen thrive and flourish. How can we consider ourselves a great country when we quietly dismiss the very people who have risked their lives for us? It’s time we do something dramatic to help those who have already given so much.
More and more Americans are looking for other options other than what is offered through traditional Western Medicine for their health concerns. To meet this increasing demand, insurance companies are offering coverage for a variety of “alternative” therapies.
Some of these HMOs and insurance providers include Aetna, Medicare, Prudential and Kaiser Permanente. The therapies most often covered are chiropractic, massage therapy and acupuncture and naturopathic medicine. Herbal remedies, homeopathy, meditation and mind-body stress management are also finding increasingly more coverage.
In spite of the coverage, however, payment for the services is quite limited. Patients typically pay for the services on a discounted basis or they are allowed a very limited number of visits.
As a result of the limitations on treatment visits, alternative therapies are assumed to be ineffective. Practitioners would argue that they aren’t given sufficient time to complete the recommended treatment plan thus shortchanging the patient on outcomes.
As far as payment for most alternative therapies, patients usually have to pay for services themselves. However, there are some plans that offer limited coverage. These plans vary and differ from state to state. You can search yourself if you want to know if there are laws in your particular state that cover a certain therapy. For instance, if you’re interested in acupuncture, contact their national professional association because they are usually aware of changes in coverage with insurance companies.
If you already have insurance but you’re not sure about coverage, check your policy thoroughly. Check to see if they offer any kind of coverage for complementary or alternative medical treatments. If you find that you have coverage, then check to see what limitations you might have. For instance, perhaps the treatment has to be administered by a medical doctor or a practitioner “in-network” If you’re still unsure, contact your insurance first before getting any treatment.
Before calling your insurer, consider asking some these questions.
* Do I need to get pre-authorization before receiving treatment?
* Do I need to go to my primary care physician to get a referral before seeking treatment?
* What services are covered?
* How much is my co-payment?
* How many visits are covered per year?
* Are there limitations on the service (i.e. only covered for certain conditions)?
* Am I limited to only “in-network” providers?
* If so, what is covered if I go “out-of-network”?
* Is there a maximum for coverage?
Be certain to keep all of your records in a safe place and very organized. Make sure you maintain details of whom and when you speak to a representative for your insurance company should there be any complications with coverage in the future.
Cheap dental insurance plans are sometimes the best alternative to maintain a high standard of dental health. This kind of dental plan makes it possible for more people to obtain excellent dental coverage.
Naturally there are many things that you want to check before you actually buy one of the cheaper dental insurance plans. Here are a few things to look for.
Definitely the most important factor for the majority of people is whether they will still be free to go to their favorite dentist or do they have to walk away from that familiarity and be forced to go to a dentist that they have never met before just because he provides cheaper rates to the dental company.
Sometimes one of the concessions that a dentist is asked to make is to only suggest to the dental insurance company what he or she thinks is the best course of treatment but in the end that decision is made by the insurance company itself. The person with the dental insurance can choose to ignore the treatment plan provided by the dental insurance company but the result will be less in the way of benefits or perhaps no benefits at all.
Next you want to know if this cheaper dental insurance plan will only pay for the least expensive alternative treatment. This means, for instance, that if you want a filling to be a enamel colored so that it does not show when you smile you need to make sure that the insurance company will not demand that you obtain only the cheaper amalgam fillings which shine a bright silver color within your mouth.
When it comes to diagnostic and preventive dental work will your dental insurance provide coverage or does it only help you financially for the more major dental procedures? If you only want it for the major dental procedures that are fine, it’s just that you want to know these things before you sign on the dotted line.
You also want to know what the dental insurance company means when they say that you have preventive services. Do they mean that they only cover the examination itself or will you also have coverage for fluoride treatments and sealants? Is there a difference in their coverage depending on whether it is an adult or a child receiving the dental treatment?
You also want to know what your coverage is for x-rays. Are they only covered for routine use or does your coverage extend to emergency services as well.
Cheap dental insurance plans are sometimes the best alternative to maintain a high standard of dental health. This kind of dental plan makes it possible for more people to obtain excellent dental coverage.
Of course, there are a lot of different items that you want to verify before you actually purchase one of the less expensive dental insurance plans. Here are some specifics that you want to check for.
First on your list is to determine whether the insurance plan allows you to continue with your same dentist or force you to go to a dentist that you have never met before.
Second issue to be considered is to find out how much say the insurance company has in the type of treatment that you obtain. Who is making the ultimate decision, in other words, is it you and your dentist or is it the insurance company?

Check also to see what they mean by preventive services. For instance, do they cover sealants and fluoride treatments? If they do provide these services is it only for your children or does the coverage extend to adults, too.
You also want to know what your coverage is for x-rays. Are they only covered for routine use or does your coverage extend to emergency services as well.
It is very important that you compare auto insurance quotes if you are planning to get insurance for your vehicle to find the right deal. By looking at the various rates on the same kind of coverage that the various companies provide, you should be able to get the right deal at the right price.
Before you start calling the insurance agents or go online to compare auto insurance quotes, you need to note down some information and keep it ready. A lot of factors can influence the insurance rate, and by providing a company with as many details as possible you ensure the right quote.
The information you will need includes: the number of your driver’s license, your address and social security number, driving history, your car’s model, year and make, VIN, mileage, and the condition of your car as well as your personal health condition. What will also affect the insurance price are your age, the place your vehicle was registered in, and additional safety features installed on your car. Depending on each company’s policy, you may be requested for a few extra details.
Try to look up the Yellow Pages and contact different companies in your place and compare auto insurance quotes. If you have a little time, you can just browse through quotes on the Internet. Go online and search and compare auto insurance quotes yourself or you can try websites that give comparisons free of charge. Finding one online is easy because there are many websites that offer such services; some only specializes on a particular state and others offer services all over the country.
Try to consider also getting inquiries from the insurance company that offered your home insurance because they might give you special discounts since you’re a previous customer. Be exact on what category you need for your insurance coverage since companies have its own coverage policies. Coverage policies are usually available on the Internet so you can check it online. Ask about the minimum coverage that your state allows so that you can reduce the insurance cost.
The process of getting insurance quotes from multiple companies has become as simple as never before. Though you still may want to contact some insurance agents on the phone to discuss your options, it is not necessary if you have little time.
You can search and type “compare auto insurance quotes” trough search engines and find a listing of various possible websites that offers free services. Many of these websites offer free services.
If your idea of planning for your senior years is playing the lotto, it is time for a reality check. Those years are going to be here before you know it. Here are some retirement planning facts and tips to prime the pump for you.
It doesn’t matter if the money goes into a 401(k) plan, an IRA or into a plain, old-fashioned savings account, just start saving.
Open an IRA. IRAs are easy to get, easy to contribute to and easy to save with. Most Americans can set up an IRA - whether it’s a traditional IRA or a Roth IRA - and save on taxes.
In 2005, of those who had 401(k) coverage available, 25 percent didn’t participate. If you are one of these, get enrolled and participate!
Today, only 42 percent of Americans have calculated how much they need to save for retirement. Have you?
Call the Social Security Administration at 1.800.772.1213 for a free Social Security Statement and find out more about your benefits.
On average, a female retiring at age 65 can expect to live another 20 years, 3 years longer than a man retiring at the same age. Savings can increase a woman’s chances of having enough money to last during her retirement.
Your nest egg assets may seem large, but what about taxes when you start liquidating them? Do you have a tax strategy in place? If not, meet with a financial planner and accountant to deal with them.
Financial Planners say that a person needs about 70% of their pre-retirement income to live a comfortable retirement.
Consider moving when you retire. If you love in a location with a high cost of living, moving to a lower cost area such as Florida can make a big difference.
Don’t dip into your retirement savings. You’ll lose principal and interest, and you may lose tax benefits. If you change jobs, roll over your savings directly into an IRA or your new employer’s retirement plan.
If your employer offers 401k plans, try to maximize your contribution. This is particularly true if they match your contributions in any way.
The biggest mistake you can make with your employers 401k plan is simple - not participating. Start saving now with pre-tax dollars even if you are only contributing a tiny amount.
Rip up your credit cards and pay off all balances. Once done, use the money you would have paid to credit card companies for your retirement funding.
Some 51% of Americans age 55 and older have saved less than $100,000. Some 28% have saved $250,000 or more.
When is it too late to start saving for retirement? It never is. People starting at 50 can still save a lot of money.
Do you have enough money to retire comfortably? You will never know for sure, so you need to save more than you expect to need. The difference between living on a couple thousand dollars a month and five times that is huge.
Insure Kid’s Now is a nationwide campaign created to bring awareness and to help insure the millions of children in the United States. Many are not aware of the plan and what it offers for many families. The program the campaign is promoting is the State Children’s Health Insurance Plan. Insurance is an important topic for many families. With more than 40 million people uninsured in America, the need for a gap program such as this couldn’t have come at a more critical time.
Many might ask why health insurance is so important for children and teens. Statistics show that children who have health insurance are more likely to receive needed immunizations that prevent disease. They are more likely to get treatment for recurring illnesses like ear infections and asthma. They have access to preventive care and therefore get sick less often and get treated when they do get sick.
Children who have health coverage they are more likely to be healthy. Healthy children tend to do better in school. Children with health insurance are less apt to miss school very often due to illness. Helping children stay healthy will help them to be ready to learn and contributes to their overall well-being.
Through this program, children have the benefit of seeing the same doctor every time they have the need to. Parents do not have the worry of how they are going to pay for it. Children can get needed immunizations and well-child visits required for school attendance and to participate in extra-curricular activities such as sports.
The program is provided a low or no cost. The plan, however, varies from state to state depending on a family’s income. If there are charges, they are quite reasonable. The plans are funded by federal and state tax dollars. Some states require a premium or co-payment for the program.
Families who have working parents but who are not able to get insurance through their employer are often eligible for this program. The majority of children that are covered through the program come from working families. Children are covered up until their nineteenth birthday. If your family is already covered by Medicaid then you are not eligible for this program.
It’s very easy to apply for the program. In most states, there is a short application to be completed. You can also contact the program directly in your states if you are unsure about how to fill out the application. In most states, you can even apply over the phone without having to take time off from work.
There are medical insurances that cover the cost of a reconstructive plastic surgery. A cosmetic plastic surgery, however, is a different story. You may have to finance a cosmetic plastic surgery yourself through a loan.
Cosmetic plastic surgery is now possible for people who may not have the financial resources. Before we look into those options, let’s take a look at what else you should know about financing plastic surgery.
Don’t Go for Bargains
Don’t be tempted to go for a surgeon who asks for less just because you don’t have clear options for financing plastic surgery. This is however, the worst possible mistake you could ever make. Plastic surgery costs are usually steeper if the surgeon who will conduct the procedure is already seasoned and an undisputed expert. An expensive doctor however is also more likely to be a safer option and eventually a more cost effective one. Cheap doctors may also have cheap services that may result in more financing plastic surgery problems because you would have to pay for corrective surgery on a botched up work.
Costs and Plans Vary
Other factors that affect the cost of cosmetic plastic surgery would include the extent of work to be performed, the type of procedure and the region you belong to. Doctors and clinics will also therefore have different payments schemes or offers for financing plastic surgery. You would have to discuss this aspect as extensively as the procedure itself. Be warned that there may also be hidden costs or miscellaneous fees that you may not have asked about and may not be included in offers for financing plastic surgery.
No Plan Scheme
Financing plastic surgery, loan or installment plans may not work with some surgeons and clinics. Some patients may not immediately realize it but such a policy may be as much for the patient’s advantage as it is theirs. This is because such a strict policy will ensure that a patient can truly afford the procedure and its corresponding after surgery costs.
Some clinics will even ask for a complete payment before a procedure to secure patient assurance. This may be potentially dangerous though especially if accidents happen.
Finance Companies and Banks
There are now finance companies and banks that offer plans for financing plastic surgery procedure. Individuals can now fill up forms for approval to cover cosmetic plastic surgery. Most companies will tell you that they have affordable and flexible rates but the truth is that applying for a loan may be a little more difficult than imagined especially in banks.
A loan for plastic surgery is actually unsecured by collateral. This means that a bank or company may have to meticulously investigate your credit history and report to find out if you are capable of paying. Even if you do pass an application for financing plastic surgery, some companies may have higher interest rates than others simply because it is their only security if you are suddenly unable to pay.
Finding the right wheels and tires is an important decision. In the long run, you are saving yourself a whole lot of trouble and money if you get the right set. You also ensure your safety and that of your passengers. Here are some basic tips when shopping for tires and wheels.
Look for Package Deals
Dealers and retailers can sell wheels and their tires separately. This may be an option for you if you don’t really need to replace your wheels just yet. Sometimes though, it makes better sense to shop for package deals. You can order all four car tires with their wheels. This can usually help you save a few dollars in shipping than if you ordered separately.
The main advantage of ordering package sets is that you get only the best fit and mounting service from your dealer. If you aren’t very experienced in fitting wheels and tires, you should just really leave it to the experts.
Look for a Lot of Options
Take note that some specific vehicle types should only be fitted with specific tire sizes and dimensions. This doesn’t mean though that you have to be stuck with only just one tire and wheel brand or model. Look for dealers that can offer you wider selections and options for your vehicle.
Ask for Installation Instructions
Before you pay for your tires and wheels, make sure that they come with full installation instructions. Reputable dealers won’t forget to insert the appropriate guidelines but you can never be too sure. Nothing spells frustration better than getting a whole package of wheels and tires and not knowing what to do with them.
If it doesn’t come with any instructions on installing, make sure your dealer is willing to offer help with finding someone who can install it. It can be tricky finding installers on your own if you do not personally know any good ones. Look for an online tire dealer who already has a good list of installer prospects to choose from.
Read Reviews
Don’t just settle for any product package even from the most reputable stores. After reading through product information and the advice of your dealer representative, you should look for even more unbiased opinion. You can usually get that from other consumers who have tried and tested tires and wheels of different brands. Look for consumer opinions in forums or in online review and rating sites. This will help ensure that you aren’t just being drawn by a sales representative who’s trying hard to sell.
Evaluate Policies and Terms
Rules and terms may vary from dealer to dealer. Make sure that you read all the fine print before clicking the buy button. You would want to be sure about shipping policies, exact costs, hidden costs, warranty rule and return policies. You would have to be at ease with all of your dealer’s terms before you get a tire and wheel package.
Look for Customer Service
Look for a good customer service. Your dealer should have knowledgeable personnel who are ready and willing to answer all your wheels and tires questions.
We hear all kinds of acronyms every day like IRS, PBS, UTI, etc. You also may have heard the acronyms PPO, POS and POS. And, you may have wondered what they stood for and beyond that, what they meant. They are managed health care terms. Health care and especially managed health care is filled with complexities and terms that many would need a degree in health insurance to understand. Ok, you may not need a degree, but, I’m here to clarify some of the terms that may have confused you in the past.
What is an HMO?
HMO means Health Maintenance Organization. This plan provides a way for employers to administer health care coverage to all of their employees at a reduced rate by negotiating with doctors and hospitals and clinics. These entities are called “providers” and they belong to what is usually called a “network”. The employees must use the providers within this network in order to be eligible for the reduced rate in fees.
HMOs are regulated by the federal government under legislation entitled the “Knox - Keene” act. Ross-Loos was the very first HMO and it began in an Alaska mining community. It was started by two physicians, Dr. Ross and Dr. Loos, who agreed to provide all the medical care for the employees of a large mining community for a set amount of money each miner paid per month.
What is a PPO?
PPO is a Preferred Provider Organization. This plan is similar to an HMO in that an employer can provide an employee with a plan that has reduced costs billed to their insurance. The difference is that employees are able to choose any physician they’d like to see instead of being restricted to the provider network. They are able to choose an “in-network” or “out-of-network” provider, however, the “in-network” provider would be less expensive than the “out-of network” provider.
What is a POS?
POS is a Point of Service plan. This plan gives employees the option to choose a physician that has previously agreed to provide care at a reduced rate. This plan, however, requires that you first visit your primary care physician to request a referral before going to a specialist.
Making sense of all the terms in managed care can be dizzying at times. Oftentimes, the terms and definitions are written in legal-ese which makes it even more difficult to understand. Taking the time to understand the organization to which you belong will stand you in good stead should there be a problem that arises in the future. Managed care is often seen as a necessary evil in our country. It is the delivery system we currently have for health care. Time will tell if a different and, perhaps, more efficient system will come to light.

Having an impaired driving conviction in Canada carries some very stiff consequences that are difficult to overcome. First of all, it is a very embarrassing thing when everyone knows what you have done and that it is a criminal offence. Even people who have never been in any kind of trouble suddenly turns into a convicted criminal because of their impaired driving conviction. Another consequence is the increase in car insurance rates, which can be rather steep and rough on the wallet.
Someone who has a blood alcohol level above 80 milligrams and is operating a motor vehicle has committed a very serious criminal offence, and this offence can become even worse if the impaired fails to comply with the demands of the police officer to submit to roadside analysis for intoxication. Either way, the damage is done, so it is in the best interest of the offender to comply in order to avoid further embarrassment, although it will do nothing for their car insurance rates.
Once the offence has been committed, the driver is considered a “high risk” driver, which results in an increase of the car insurance rates called the ‘Facility rating.’ Many insurance companies will go ahead and cancel the policy of the convicted driver, but when the driver is placed within the facility rating, they are looking at insurance premiums upward of $10,000 per year for at least five years. The insurance company will also refuse to pay for any damages incurred to the offending driver’s vehicle. Basically, all insurance policies and accident claims will be void if the vehicle of the accused is found to be involved in impaired driving or any illegal act. This can result in the insurance company suing the accused for any claims made for the damages imposed on another person’s vehicle.
For a teenager who is convicted of impaired driving, the laws are a little bit different in that their car insurance rates will be returned to normal rates when they are twenty-one years of age. This does have organizations such as MADD in a frenzy because they believe this is not a good example for young drivers because, although they do face consequences of high interest rates for a number of years it is not the usual 5 years that drivers 18 and up have to face.
Something else that needs to be taken into consideration in regards to an impaired driving conviction is that the license of the offender, no matter their age, will be suspended and that suspension may lead to an insurance surcharge. If the accused successfully defends the charge that resulted in the suspension, can provide a certified copy of the information to the insurance company, the surcharge should be removed upon renewal of the policy.
The penalties are rough, but most certainly deserved by anyone who decides to get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle when they are impaired. With a $10,000 per year insurance bill, that should be enough to deter anyone from driving under the influence, but there are still those who do not believe that they will get caught because they don’t feel like they are as impaired as what they actually are. It is when they get caught and are stuck with not having a license, have a criminal conviction under their belt, and five years of astronomical car insurance rates that they will regret and wish they could go back in time to do that day all over again and make the right decision regarding operating a motor vehicle under the influence. Unfortunately, it doesn’t quite work that way, so the consequences must be paid.
Most households have more than one vehicle because there are either two adults working or two adults working with a teenager who drives. Either way, when you own more than one vehicle, it is nice to know that you can get a discount for insuring those vehicles with your insurance provider. These discounts are called multi-vehicle loyalty discounts and can save the average household quite a bit of money compared to not having such a program at all.
Most insurance providers in Canada carry multi-vehicle loyalty discounts, which is why it is important to make sure that you have all of your cars on the same policy. The usual discount is around 10% off of each car that is on the policy. If you don’t have your cars on the same policy, then you are missing out on that discount that can keep you from paying out unnecessary amounts to the car insurance provider.
However, although the median discount between Canadian insurance providers is around 10%, the discount can be anywhere between 5 and 15% per car. This is especially helpful for drivers in British Columbia and Ontario who are said to be paying the highest and second highest car insurance rates in Canada. The average motorist in British Columbia is paying out $1,400 per year for their car insurance policies, whereas Ontario isn’t far behind at an annual of $1,350. Who has the best rates? Try the Prince Edward Islanders who are only shelling out around $825 yearly for coverage. That is certainly a vast difference between the highest and the lowest.
The reason for these differences in rates is because there are certain provinces where the government has tighter control over the rates and rates are also based on certain criteria in each province. But Ontario has a free market system and is still paying a lot of money for their car insurance. Why is this?
Ontario’s high insurance rate is due in part to the population. Because there are more people, there are more accidents and more cars are stolen each year. There are other factors such as age, driving record, and how much time is spent traveling. Then again, there is the question of whether or not multiple vehicles are on the same policy. This can be making a huge difference as well when taking into consideration that most car insurance providers carry that 5-15% discount per car to save Canadians some money on these high insurance rates.
Despite the high rates, when looking at some Canadian insurance providers, you will see that there are other benefits they offer in addition to the multi-vehicle loyalty discounts. They can have accident forgiveness protection on all vehicles, provide anti-theft discounts, and they can also combine car insurance with property insurance to form a multi-line discount that can save you even more money by using the same provider.
So as you can see, there are several ways in which you can beat the high car insurance rates and insurance providers who are willing to work with you to do it. Just keeping certain things in mind such as making sure your vehicles are on the same policy and ensuring that a discount has been imposed can make a world of difference in your pocket. Even if you think you are currently getting a discount, double check to make sure, because mistakes do happen and not on purpose. You also want to ask your insurance provider about other discounts and moving other existing policies from other providers to them in order to save money by keeping all of your insurance in one place. This can certainly offset your insurance costs and keep a little more money in your pocket each year.
Medicaid is a federally funded program set up to provide health care for individuals and family of limited income and resources. Medicaid is state administered and each state is responsible for setting the guidelines for eligibility and disbursement.
The federal guidelines identify 25 categories for eligibility that can be broadened into 4 categories.
* Pregnant Women
A woman who even thinks she might possibly pregnant can apply for Medicaid. A woman is eligible regardless of marital status. When the child is born, both mother and child are covered.
* Children and Teenagers
A parent or guardian of a child who is 18 old or younger and the family has few resources can apply for Medicaid. A parent or guardian with a child that is sick enough to need nursing home care but would prefer quality care at home can also apply for Medicaid.
* Persons that are Aged, Blind and/or Disabled
A person is who is 65 or older, is blind or disabled and has a low income or few resources can apply for Medicaid. An individual can also apply who is terminally is and would like to receive hospice care. The aged, blind are disabled that need nursing home care but would prefer to utilize and at-home community service can also apply.
* Other Situations
If an individual is leaving welfare and needs health coverage he/she can apply for Medicaid. An individual can also apply if he/she has a large amount of medical debt and does not have the resources to pay if the person also falls into the categories listed above, i.e. pregnant, parent of child who is 18 or younger 65 and older and is blind and/or disabled.
In addition to Medicaid, the government has administered another program to provide for children up to the age of 19. The program is called the State Children’s Health Insurance Program or SCHIP. Some states have incorporated this plan into their Medicaid program. Other states have kept it separate while other states have done a combination of the two. These programs are meant to bridge the gap for families who make too much money to be eligible for Medicaid but they also can not afford private insurance. Most states provide this coverage to children whose families are at or below 200% of the Federal poverty level (FPL).
The federally funded programs are important resources for our nation’s most vulnerable. While not perfect, it does provide a means for those who aren’t able to do for themselves.
There are many factors to consider when making a life insurance purchase. But hopefully the following few paragraphs will help explain in plain language the best choices to be made in order to obtain the best package for yourself and your individual circumstances.
Buying any financial product is always going to be a bit tricky there are many things to think about such as what you need the product for, value for money, suitability of a particular company and so on. With life insurance it can be a little simpler as all you really need to know is how much do you need and how long do you need it for. Once you have established these two facts all you need to do is find a suitable company at the right price for your own budget.
So how much do you need? This depends very much on what you actually want the cover for. Let’s say for example you want to cover a mortgage of 100,000 then it is simple to say that you need 100,000 in cover and then your dependents should be able to pay of the debt should you die.
If family protection is the kind of insurance you need then working out the cover required is slightly more complicated. You need an insurance policy just to protect your family, therefore you need to establish how much worse off your family would be on your death.
The easiest way to assess this is to look at what you earn per year. If you earn 35,000 per year then the straightforward calculation would be that your family will lose out on 35,000 per year when you die. You therefore will need to take out 35,000 per annum in protection.
There are two options in this case. The first option comes under the name of family income benefit. This policy guarantees a specified amount of money to be paid out on an annual basis for a set timeframe. Based on a salary of 35,000, a policy taken out to cover this amount paid over 25 years would guarantee a payout of 35,000 per annum for a period of 25 years.
With this type of cover you can also include something called indexation. Indexation basically will increase the amount of benefit each year inline with the average earnings index as such your dependents will essentially get a pay rise each year same as you would had you been alive and continued to work.
The second approach is to take out a lump sum life insurance plan. How this policy works is that you need to work out how much of a lump sum is required to cover your 30,000 per annum deficit. This can be quite problematic as you have to take into account factors such as how the money would be invested, what the return would be on that investment, and how long the lump sum would last if 30,000 were to be taken out per year. The basic rule of thumb in this instance is to take your yearly income and multiply it by 10. Therefore a yearly income of 30,000 would require a lump sum payment of 300,000.
The most financially secure choice between these two approaches is obviously the family income benefit plan. Your family will receive the same amount of money from this policy just as if you were still receiving an income had you been alive, and without the variables of investment fluctuations. With it you will know exactly what your dependants will receive each year.
To sum up the key points when shopping for the policy best for you, get enough cover to adequately meet your needs, it must be for the right length of time, it must cover the sum and be for the timeframe you specify. Internet based companies are a great source of information and answers, so use them well. If in doubt, contact one of them directly by phone and ask for one to one advice.
