I know EXACTLY what you mean. I’m self employed and for us to get dental would actually cost more then any amount I would spend at the dentist without insurance. I have NEVER had good coverage, and most of the plans I find online are bootleg. Thank God I have been going to the same dentist for 20 plus years and he cuts me a break on some stuff and lets me pay whatever I want on the bill.

Cost of health insurance for state workers in NC?
Can anyone tell me what the cost is for an employee of the state of NC for dependent health and dental insurance? Not the total family plan cost, but the cost for dependant children.

ARE THERE DENTAL PLANS THAT COVER IMPLANTS?
I need an implant on my lower tooth in the front. The dentist I have referred me to someone that costs $2500 for it. My insurance only pays 20% of the exam fee not the actual implant cost. I am a college student I can’t afford to pay that much by myself.
I need actual names of insurance plans. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanx.

You would have to talk to them about that. But probably not because the work is already done. They want to get paid now and most dental offices don’t care if you maxed out your insurance or not (not trying to be mean but it’s true). Some dental offices are very nice and do whatever they can to help you, but you’ll just have to discuss it with them and find out.

I’m not a california resident and I have never heard of Liberty Dental, so I won’t be of too much help. But I was in the market myself for dental plans a few months ago, and I learned very quickly to read all the fine print.

There appear to be two separate breeds of dental plan. One is the one with *real* coverage, which is really and truly an insurance plan. You will pay a deductible, but then they pick up the rest of the cost up to the maximum per year (usually $1000 or $1500). Major stuff, like root canals, they pay 50%, and so on. The premiums are on the expensive side, but the coverage is better.

The second one is where you pay a monthly ‘membership’ – not really a premium. In exchange, you get *discounted rates* at dentists offices. Some plans let you go to your own dentists, but more than likely you have to go to someone of their choice. The premiums are cheaper, but the coverage (if you can call it that) is lousy. You’re not really being insured, you’re paying a discounted rate.

So be *very careful* about what you buy – see what it is actually doing, the choices you have, and the procedures that are covered. My guess – if this is very inexpensive – is that it’s not very good.

He probably doesn’t have the time to wait for regular dental insurance. The premium for a good dental plan in PA will be around $40 per month. The waiting periods on dental insurance for major treatment such as oral surgery and wisdom teeth extraction is 18 months. This means you have to wait until the 19th month to get the procedure done and then the insurance only pays 50% of the bill. Plus you have yearly maximums and yearly deductibles.

The premium for the plans in PA is around $100 – $130 for 15 months coverage. They will only give you a discount of around 20% – 25% but there are no deductibles, no yearly maximums and no waiting periods.

One word of advice before getting on any dental plan. If your current dentist is not on the provider list you’ll need to find a new one that is. Before signing up for the plan call some of the dentists that are listed to make sure they’re still in the plan and are taking new patients.

How much is it for Blue Cross Blue shield health insurance (family plan) per month if you buy it on your own??
I want to work for myself but the cost of supporting my own health insurance for myself,wife and child is a big factor in my decision.

What’s the difference between dental insurance and dental plans?
I need to see a dentist and don’t get coverage through work. I’ve googled dental insurance, but dental plans keep coming up. What’s the difference? and can you recommend any specific insurance or plan? I live in the SF Bay Area.
