Individual Dental Plans Comparison
on September 25th, 2011 at 1:17 amHow to Pick the Right Dental Plan!
Many individual dental plans today cover only the basics such as teeth cleanings and some x-rays. However, many people need or want a plan that will also pay for such dental treatment as braces or whitening. For most people, they become their own individual dental plan as it becomes more cost effective to save for an uncovered procedure than to upgrade to a traditional dental plan that offers more coverage.
You will need to know if your dentist participates in the program. It does not really matter what the fees are for the plan if your dentist of choice is not on the list that they deal with. It is also a good idea to ask you dentist what dental plan he would recommend. He knows what you normally have done and how often, the dentist will also know what companies he participates in.
If you are having trouble finding a dental plan to suit your needs for the price you are willing to pay, speak with your dentist. Many dentists are willing to make payment arrangements with loyal clients.
Ask if they cover the types of procedures that you normally have performed by your dentist. If you are seeking a company with a plan to cover cleanings and fillings, it will be less expensive. Like wise, if you want to have fluoride and x-rays paid for by your individual dental plan, it will cost you a little more.
When you are searching for a dental plan, it is important to work with a reliable provider. The best way to ensure this is to ask them questions. You want a mailing address from them, not just a P.O. Box; this will ensure that you are dealing with a real company. You need to know if they have a phone number and what hours they can be reached. When you get this number, give them a call back and ask some basic questions, this will give you and idea as to the level of customer service that you can expect in the future.

Anyone know of an affordable individual health/dental insurance plan for Brooklyn, NY?
I no longer have school insurance and my work does not offer insurance. I am looking for an affordable health/dental insurance plan in Brooklyn, New York. Is dental included in medical insurance or is that separate? I don’t want to spend $600-$1000 on a premium for an HMO, but would rather spend a few hundred a month while getting a decent amount of benefits. Also, does anyone know of a comparison chart online regarding details of insurance providers including premiums and benefits. All I can find are complaint comparison charts for insurance providers. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Liberty Dental Plan of California, is it for real? Anyone know anything about good and…?
…relatively cheap dental plans?
I recently lost my dental coverage and i am looking for a new plan that i will pay for out of my own pocket. i live in california and i found this dental plan called liberty dental of california. the rates seem very reasonable in comparison with other ive researched. anyone have any advice or want to dish out their 2 cents concerning this?
here is their website: http://www.libertydentalplan.com/ca/individuals/index.shtml
I’m not a california resident and I have never heard of Liberty Dental, so I won’t be of too much help. But I was in the market myself for dental plans a few months ago, and I learned very quickly to read all the fine print.
There appear to be two separate breeds of dental plan. One is the one with *real* coverage, which is really and truly an insurance plan. You will pay a deductible, but then they pick up the rest of the cost up to the maximum per year (usually $1000 or $1500). Major stuff, like root canals, they pay 50%, and so on. The premiums are on the expensive side, but the coverage is better.
The second one is where you pay a monthly ‘membership’ – not really a premium. In exchange, you get *discounted rates* at dentists offices. Some plans let you go to your own dentists, but more than likely you have to go to someone of their choice. The premiums are cheaper, but the coverage (if you can call it that) is lousy. You’re not really being insured, you’re paying a discounted rate.
So be *very careful* about what you buy – see what it is actually doing, the choices you have, and the procedures that are covered. My guess – if this is very inexpensive – is that it’s not very good.
